OUR SELFIES

If you can’t beat them, join them. My excuse for taking selfies is the Covid pandemic which drastically altered my street photography habits. People became scared when approached by a masked photographer. I became scared of illness when getting too close to subjects. So, Goldie, my wife, and I went on long, sweet walks in uncrowded neighborhoods and took lots of selfies. Another reason for selfies – many of the iconic street photographers such as Vivian Mair, Lee Friedlander, and Weegee took self-portraits, some of them quite memorable and inspiring. Our selfies were in the spirit of street photography and, if nothing else, continued our quality time together and helped keep me in practice till the shutdown ended. Now, it’s an art form that we both enjoy.
